A colloquium for postgraduate students in archaeology

If you are doing your PhD, Honours or Masters in archaeology or a related discipline, the Archaeology Research Colloquium offers a chance to network with your peers, exchange knowledge, and reflect on your research. We meet every fortnight during semester for one hour, on a Tuesday from 3pm-4pm. The first colloquium for 2016 will be on 8 March.

The colloquium fosters academic exchange between students who are writing a thesis in archaeology. The idea is to share 60 minutes of your time and brain energy for everybody’s benefit. Your fellow student is a great untapped information resource regarding your research. Coffee, tea and biscuits are provided and feel free to stay for an informal chat afterwards.

Each session is usually about a specific topic. In most sessions, we discuss one student’s research. We offer a friendly and non-threatening atmosphere to discuss any question chosen by you. You can bring anything you are working on and get feedback from the group, be it your research proposal, thesis chapter, paper, grant proposal, conference publication, or a specific methodological problem you are struggling with.

We also have sessions where we exchange tips and hints e.g. dealing with certain software or applying for grants. Sometimes we invite external presenters to talk about various topics, especially around writing a thesis and working in archaeology.

Most colloquium participants come from Flinders, but we welcome participants from any other university. If you’re visiting from interstate or overseas, feel free to join us at one of our sessions. We especially warmly invite students who are just starting their thesis or postgraduate studies. Please come along and meet your peers!

Hum262, every second Tuesday, 3pm-4pm, beginning 8 March.
