Welcome to the Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning is designed to augment the leadership work done by professionals engaged at the grass roots organisational re-culturing level. As such, the topics within the award focus on the various dimensions of generating a strategic shift in shared aspirations and shared practices. While each topic takes the perspective of leadership, there are topics that focus on the technical dimensions of leading a change in practice (eg, leading improved practice in languages and literacy education) and those that focus on leadership for a culture of learning and innovation more generally. In all cases, the focus is on the professional's personal practice.

This award has several strands:

Details about the standard Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning can be accessed here.

IB Certificate in Leadership Practice

The IB Certificate in Leadership Practice strand has four topics of 4.5 units each.  The topics are designed to build sequentially, thus students could reasonably expect to take them in the order below.  They could also overlap, although we recommend that Planning Change in Organisations is taken as a capstone topic in the final semester.

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational learning (IB Certificate in Leadership Practice) has been designed to allow students to engage with the essential questions of the IB Leadership Framework.  Our topics provide experientially rich, dialogic opportunities that enable considered, contextually responsive engagements that enhance a strengths-based living of relational leadership.  For IB leaders, this means you will be able to draw on the sustained dialogue to enrich your living out of leadership as it is shaped by the special character of your context. This degree offers both experienced and emerging leaders a pathway toward a richer understanding of the art of leadership.

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning can be credited towards a higher degree, such as the Master of Education (Leadership and Management).  This would allow students who are interested in the IB Advanced Certificate in Leadership Research to attain this whilst completing the Masters program.

Multilingual Literacy

The MLL strand has four topics of 4.5 units each. The topics are designed to build sequentially, thus students could reasonably expect to take them in the order below.

  • EDUC9630 Leading and Managing Professional Learning for Integrated Languages and Literacy Programs.
  • EDUC9631 Perspectives on Leading Professional Learning for Integrated Languages Curricula
  • EDUC8618 Pedagogical Leadership
  • EDUC9606 Planning Change in Organisations

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning (Multilingual Literacy) will equip classroom teachers, specialist language teachers, and principals with the knowledge, skills and practice to implement a Multilingual Literacy Approach (MLL) across the learning areas. Teachers will study phonology, syntax, and language conventions within a cross-linguistic framework. They will undertake deep task analysis of the universal and language specific components of literacy development. This course will support teachers and principals in developing and leading a site-specific process of curriculum renewal based upon an understanding of goals and purposes, scope and sequences, assessment tools, teaching and learning strategies, mentoring and organisational change. This qualification could also be used by graduates as evidence in applying for Step 9 Teacher classification.

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning can be credited towards a higher degree, such as the Master of Education (Leadership and Management).
