Social Justice Research Collective

The Social Justice Research Collective (SJRC) was established midway through 2004. It is comprised of both early career and experienced researchers from the School of Education who are broadly interested in social justice pedagogies and research. It complements the research carried out by the School of Education’s research institute, Centre for the Analysis of Educational Futures, and other programs.

Excellence in research at Flinders University, and within the School of Education, is well documented. Members of the SJRC undertake research that provides a critical perspective on social justice issues as they relate to curriculum, policy making, pedagogy and the quality of teaching and learning. Research provides cutting edge perspectives in the education field that will be of use to university teaching programs, schools, and the education sector generally.

Importantly, a strategic purpose of the SJRC is to stimulate collaborative research which has a social justice focus. The SJRC provides a forum which not only informs our work as educators – through shared readings, workshops and participation in seminars outside of Flinders University – it is also a point of reference where our understandings of contemporary ideas and research about social justice can be sustained and enhanced. Members of the SJRC are key members in other research groups within and outside of Flinders University; this ensures that discourses of social justice are considered within a number of key research areas.
