As of 2014 the Institute hosts two new initiatives:

Yearly Research Theme

The aim of the yearly theme is to provide a core of focused research activity across various disciplines within the humanities and creative arts at Flinders with the potential to involve the wide membership of the Institute. Activities generally will include events involving significant national and international researchers, especially conferences and workshops, that promise significant research outcomes for Institute members.

Annual FIRtH Fellowships

Each year one or more members of the Institute will be awarded these fellowships on a competitive basis and in conjunction with a period of study leave. The fellowships will be awarded solely on the basis of past academic achievement and are intended to provide fellows with modest funds to progress their research through attendance at conferences, workshops and other related research activities, at the same time as contributing to the work of the Institute.
