Welcome to the Department of Language Studies
The Department of Language Studies offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs of study in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish at Beginners and Advanced levels, as well as in Applied Linguistics and TESOL/ESL.
Language programs of study are offered at all levels of the university curriculum to cater for a variety of students' needs, aspirations and interests. They may be taken as part of a Bachelor degree (e.g. Bachelor of Languages , Bachelor of Arts , Bachelor of International Studies , Bachelor of Education , Bachelor of Business , etc.) or as part of the Diploma in Language , alongside a Flinders degree.
Language programs of study are also available as part of our graduate courses (see list below).
Opportunities for postgraduate research in Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies are also available through MA and PhD programs.

Flinders staff offer some of the above languages also at the University of Adelaide and at the University of South Australia as part of our Outreach Program. Indonesian is offered at Flinders University by the Flinders AsiaCentre .
Staff in the Department of Language Studies are also active in a wide range of research areas.
The quality and reputation of our language programs in was recognised in 2007 when the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in higher Education awarded the Department of Languages a citation for outstanding contribution to student learning.
