There are a range of study options available in the Department of Language Studies. Languages may be studied as single elective topics or as part of majors and minors.
From 2011 majors in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish are 36 units. They consist of 6 topics of language studies and 2 topics of cultural studies. When topics are taken consecutively, majors may be completed in three years.
Extended majors in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish (only available in the Bachelor of Languages) are 45 units. They consist of 6 topics of language studies, 2 topics of cultural studies at second year and 2 advanced language studies topics at third year. When topics are taken consecutively, majors may be completed in three years.
Minors in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish are 22.5 units. They consist of 4 topics of language studies and 1 topic of cultural studies. When topics are taken consecutively, minors may be completed in two years.

Information about transition for pre-2011 students
All languages offered in the Department of Language Studies can be taken as electives. For example, a student may choose to complete the first year of a language, or simply one semester, either at Beginners’ or at Advanced (post-Year 12) level.
Beside language topics, the Department of Language Studies also offers cultural and linguistics topics that may be taken as electives at second or third year levels (provided that they not also taken as part of a major, a minor or as a prescribed topic).

Auditing a Topic
