|I really enjoyed the course, and found the information provided invaluable. I have already utilised some of the learnings in my new job as marketing and communication coordinator (I actually used the theories from the course in my interview for the job)

There are a number of professional development programmes in tourism offered by Flinders University Tourism. These are well attended by people working or seeking to work in the industry who want to gain an industry-recognised qualification. A series of one and three-day intensive courses are available in two streams – Interpretation and Festival & Event Design & Management. Participants can achieve a Certificate of Attendance or an Industry Certificate which articulates into the Graduate Certificate or Diploma in either or both streams.
Introduction to Festival & Event Design & Management
Introduction to Festival & Event Design & Management provides a one day introductory workshop on the basics of festival and event design, management, and marketing. Participants receive Event Design: Creating and Staging the Event Experience by Dr Steve Brown. This course is not assessed and participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Industry Certificate in Festival & Event Design & Management
A three-day seminar and workshop program aimed at industry professionals or those seeking more than a basic introduction to the festival and event industry. Applicants who have already completed the one day Introduction workshop will only be required to complete the final two days of the Industry Certificate workshop. Participants receive Data CD (Vol. 1) Festival and Event Design and Management (Basic Systems).
Introduction to Interpretation
The Introduction to Interpretation provides a one day introductory workshop on the basics of the relationships between interpretation and tourism. This course is not assessed and participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Industry Certificate in Interpretation
Applicants must have already completed the one day Introduction workshop. The Industry Certificate in Interpretation is held over two days and introduces Interpretation principles and techniques. This course is assessed and participants need to successfully complete the assignments to be awarded the Industry Certificate in Interpretation. The Industry Certificate is awarded by the Flinders University and is endorsed by the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) and Department for the Environment and Heritage.
The professional development programs can also provide entry into the graduate programs or those without a degree*. For example, for the Festival and Event Design and Management programs there are 3 options:
A similar pathway exists for the Interpretation programs. This alternate entry pathway into the graduate programs was designed in conjunction with the South Australian Tourism Commission and industry to enable those people who are working in the industry who don’t have a formal degree qualification to gain access to and qualify with a graduate qualification.
