The first two years of this award are undertaken at Flinders University and the third and fourth years are undertaken at the University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes Campus. The award is conferred by the University of South Australia.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) prepares students for a career as a Civil Engineer.
The 1st year of this award contains studies in fundamental science and engineering topics including electronics, computer programming, mathematics, chemistry and physics.
The 2nd year focusses on mechanics and structures, geographical systems, fluid and energy, geological processes and the environment.
The 3rd and 4th years are undertaken at the University of South Australia's Mawson Lakes campus and include advanced studies in areas such as rock and soil mechanics, structural engineering, hydraulics and the design of water resources systems.
Refer to the program of study.
Civil engineers design, build and manage roads, buildings, water supply and storage systems, wastewater systems, transport systems, and bridges while taking into consideration any social, environmental, and financial constraints.
They are responsible for the infrastructure and resources that are essential for the daily functioning of cities, towns and rural areas.
This is a new course. It is expected that it will meet the requirements for graduate membership of Engineers Australia and the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
What can I do with my Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree?
Flinders also offers all students the opportunity to major in a language in conjunction with any undergraduate course. The Diploma in Language is designed to provide students with competence in a chosen language that adds greater portability to their qualifications. You will complete a total of one extra year of study and graduate with both your chosen degree and the Diploma in Language. You can apply for this at time of enrolment.
