Examples - how to work out the student contribution amount

A topic at Band 3

Jane is a new student in 2013 and has enrolled in LLAW1211. Jane has checked the student contribution band for this topic . This is a 4.5 unit topic at Band 3 ($9,792 per year).

A full-time load at Flinders is 36 units (1 EFTSL). To calculate the student contribution amount divide the topic unit value (4.5) by the total units for the year (36) and multiply by the annual student contribution amount.

LLAW1211: 4.5 units at Band 3 rate= 4.5/36 x $9,792

=

$1,224

Jane's student contribution amount for LLAW1211 in 2013 is $1,224.00

If Jane opts to pay up-front and is eligible for the 10% discount she will pay $1,101.60. The discount is calculated on the whole-dollar amount for the topic which is $1,224 x 90% = $1,101.60.

A topic at Band 1

John is a new student in 2013 and has enrolled in NURS1101. John has checked the student contribution band for this topic . This is a 4.5 unit topic at Band 1 ($5,868 per year).

A full-time load at Flinders is 36 units (1 EFTSL). To calculate the student contribution amount divide the topic unit value (4.5) by the total units for the year (36) and multiply by the annual student contribution amount.

NURS1101: 4.5 units at Band 1 rate = 4.5/36 x $5,868

=

$733.00

John's student contribution amount for NURS1101 in 2013 is $733.00

If John opts to pay up-front and is eligible for the 10% discount he will pay $659.70. The discount is calculated on the whole-dollar amount for the topic which is $733.00 x 90% = $659.70.

Total

$6,488.00

Charlotte's student contribution amount for 2013 is $6,488.00.

If Charlotte opts to pay up-front and is eligible for the 10% discount she will pay $5,839.20 for the year. Discount is calculated on the whole-dollar amount for each topic. Hence the discounted amount payable is $6,488 x 90% = $5839.20
