Italy, perhaps a not so common fact, is predisposed to earthquakes and tremors given its geological location. In 2009 the world saw the destruction and devastation caused by the earthquake in L'Aquila. In Italy the Emergency services are managed by civilian administrators. My presentation will be on the emergency structure and response to the disaster in L'Aquila and the role the nurses had during this time. Consequently our research has followed on from this and I will be discussing the design and some steps of this together with the preliminary outcomes from the trial of this research. The area covered in this work is to look at nurses' experience and feelings about being involved in this disaster.
