This year, the Flinders University Pendopo End-of-Semester Concert continues its tradition of stretching the boundaries of Flinders’ engagement with Indonesian cultural traditions, with students from the Indonesian Musical Cultures and Identities topic (ASST2006) playing the traditional Central Javanese pieces they have learned during their semester of study of the art of gamelan, along with a piece that fuses east with west; students from St Aloysius College Children’s Gamelan playing in Sundanese style, accompanied by virtuoso drummer Dodi Darmadi; and the Gamelan In Situ ensemble performing contemporary gamelan music from In Lieu, the show by local composer David Kotlowy and dancer Ade Suharto that was a sell-out success at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2011 OzAsia Festival. The Flinders Asia Centre warmly invites colleagues, family and friends to attend this performance.
Enjoy the convivial hospitality that is the hallmark of events held in the Flinders University Pendopo, the company of our Indonesian post-grad students and their families, and the delicious Indonesian snacks that will be served after the performance.
