The new South Australian Public Health Act aims to promote and provide for the protection of the health of the public of South Australia and to reduce the incidence of preventable illness and injury and disability. In doing so the Act goes further than similar Acts in Australia in that it specifically engages with health promotion and disease prevention, including reduction of chronic conditions.
What might the new South Australian Public Health Act look like in action? What is now possible under the Act? and how can the Act be used to promote healthy environments?
This seminar aims to examine the ways in which the new Public Health Act can assist in advancing the health of the community, especially the promotion of healthy weight. The seminar will look at how, under the new Act, a number of actions are possible that will assist and support healthy weight promotion.
The speakers will draw on their experiences in healthy weight promotion and discuss how the new Act can be used to increase opportunities in this area. This seminar will be of interest to a range of players including policy makers, local government officers, planners, health promotion practitioners, academics, nutritionists.
