The Centre for Student Wellbeing & Prevention of Violence (SWAPv) and the School of Education, Flinders University presents Adair Donaldson.
Young adults and parents face a constant challenge dealing with the consequences of poor split second decision made in relation to alcohol, sex, violence, illicit drugs, motor vehicles and the illegal use of technology. Youth are often treated as a problem to be solved. We work from the premise that young adults do not want to be treated as a problem but rather as the solution - if they understand the issues they believe they can come up with the answer.
Adair will highlight his experiences with developing the interactive educational resource
Putting Youth in the Picture aimed at creating awareness about the legal consequences of young adult's actions. He will speak about the challenges that he has faced dealing with the competing interests of governments, health institutions and the alcohol industry. He will also advocate that by training mentors to deliver the training to young adults then this increases the chances of achieving the best impression. Adair will also question the effectiveness of expensive government public awareness campaigns compared to investing in educational institutions that are ideally placed to address the issues face to
face.
