Fees
FEE-HELP
What is FEE-HELP?
FEE-HELP is a government loan scheme that assists eligible
students to pay their tuition fees. You do
not start repaying your FEE-HELP debt until your income is
above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayments.
In the 2007-2008 tax year this income threshold is $39,825.
Am I eligible for FEE-HELP?
You are eligible to obtain a FEE-HELP loan if you are:
- an Australian citizen
- a holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- a holder of a permanent visa who is undertaking a
bridging course for overseas-trained professionals
NB: FEE-HELP is not available to New Zealand citizens and
Australian permanent residents unless you are a pre-2005
eligible PELS student (see below).
How much can I borrow?
You have a lifetime loan limit, currently set at $81,600 for all courses except Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry for which the limit is $102,000. This limit is indexed annually.
How do I apply for a FEE-HELP loan?
To obtain FEE-HELP you must complete a Request for
FEE-HELP assistance form. Log on to the Student Information System and follow the prompts from. This must be received by the
relevant census date for the topics concerned to ensure that your
enrolment is not cancelled.
Pre-2005 PELS eligible students
If you are a permanent resident who has previously incurred
a PELS debt you may be eligible for FEE-HELP.
You will be eligible if you are continuing in a course in
2008 and have previously incurred a PELS debt and you are
either:
- enrolled in a course in 2005 and starting a new course
in 2008; or
- you did not study in 2005 but you were on an approved
leave of absence
