For entry in 2008 Flinders University piloted a new entry pathway – uniTEST.
uniTEST recognises that the Tertiary Entrance Rank is not always the best indicator of aptitude or ability to undertake tertiary studies. uniTEST builds on Flinders history of providing equitable access to University study.
The test has been designed to assess the kinds of generic reasoning and thinking skills that underpin studies at higher education and that are needed for students to be successful. uniTEST assesses this reasoning and thinking across the two broad domains of mathematics and science and humanities and social sciences. The test is designed for current school leavers to complement existing selection criteria such as Tertiary Entrance Rank.
For the pilot, uniTEST results could be used for entry to the following Flinders courses:
The initiative was supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. This included funding for uniTEST. uniTEST is provided by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
