Students with disabilities

We are committed to providing access and equity for students with disabilities to enable them to participate fully and independently in the academic, cultural and social life of Flinders.

The Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) is the first point of contact for students who think they may need some assistance because of their disability.

The DLO can assist students to liaise with lecturers in regards to reasonable adjustments to teaching or assessment methods, and can organise specific services as appropriate.

In addition, each Faculty appoints a member of academic staff as a Faculty Disability Academic Advisor (FDAA). FDAAs act as a point of contact and information for students with disabilities and for academic staff who need to clarify issues relating to reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.

Child care

Care for children under school age is available at the Flinders University Child Care Centre – a community based, not-for-profit centre.

The centre has attained the highest level of quality accreditation and has experienced and qualified staff who offer exceptional care and education in a caring and stimulating environment.

A community child care centre is also available at Flinders Medical Centre. Enquiries can be made on on (08) 8204 5306.

Parents are required to pay a fee and childcare benefit is available to parents who qualify through the Family Assistance Office.

Health and counselling

The Counselling Service

The Counselling Service assists students who may be experiencing difficulties studying due to personal or social problems.

Students see counsellors about matters relating to their study, relationships or family issues or specific learning disabilities. Whatever your health and counselling needs, our psychologists and social workers can help you get back on track.

The Health Service

The Health Service provides a wide range of medical services to students using the Medicare bulk billing system.

It operates Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 5:00pm. The medical staff, including male and female doctors, are available by appointment.

Yunggorendi

Yunggorendi First Nations Centre for Higher Education and Research provides a range of services. One of the aims of Yunggorendi is to encourage and assist Indigenous students to gain admission to university and once enrolled, provide the support to enable them to enhance their academic achievement and complete their degree.

To enable us to successfully do this, Student Services focuses on:

• a university orientation program
• the development of study skills such as academic writing, note taking, citation systems, time management and exam revision
• researching effectively through the use of library resources
• access to computers
• academic advice and support
• ongoing assistance with study and personal difficulties.

Flinders One Student Assist + Employment

Flinders One's Student Assist service provides welfare and counselling support to Flinders University students. This includes services for international and postgraduate students.
