Life at Flinders

Girl juggling ball on her knees in the Flinders Uni plaza

Flinders is everything a modern university should be – progressive and dynamic, yet friendly and accessible. We offer a vibrant and stimulating environment in which to work or study and have a long-held reputation as the ‘student's university'.

Our Adelaide campus

Spread over 165 hectares, Flinders offers an exciting environment that is unmatched by any other university in South Australia.

The Adelaide campus incorporates thousands of trees and areas of natural bushland and the elevated site offers panoramic views of the central business district and nearby coast.

The Registry Student Centre, Central Library, most buildings and offices are built around a central lake on the southern section of the campus.

A walking path leads north to the Sturt Buildings which house the School of Education, School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Australian Science and Mathematics School. The School of Medicine is located in the adjacent Flinders Medical Centre.

What students think of our campus

There is a strong sense of community within the student population at Flinders that Emily Carroll, a Health Sciences student at Flinders, feels students who attend the city universities are missing out on.

‘There is much more interaction between the students at Flinders during break times. That is, students don't disappear from the campus and head into town to go shopping. Rather, if they need something they just go to the Mall on campus.'

Life on Campus

The campus environment is a great place to be. With many eating spots, coffee shops and bars it's the ideal space to catch up with friends, to have a coffee and study, to read or even log on to the university's wireless network.

There is a wholefoods shop, travel agent, post office, laundrette, bank, chemist, photo shop, optometrist, hairdresser and Unibooks (the university bookshop). There is also a convenience shop that sells everything from stationery, magazines and newspapers through to gifts.

Flinders One provides a range of services on campus, such as:

  • staff to provide representation for students
  • food outlets and licensed areas, meeting rooms, and a variety of shops
  • academic, cultural, political, recreational and religious clubs, societies and associations
  • sports and recreational facilities, including the grounds, for general sport and recreation or other specific activities.

What students think of campus life

Wilbur Glenn Calaco, an Environmental Management student at Flinders says, ‘The university has helped me to mature as a person – it is a warm and friendly environment in which to pursue your studies'.
