The RHD Milestones provide an authentic learning strategy to ensure communication between candidate and supervisor is sound and focused on completion rather than generic ‘progress’. Via the RHD Milestone process candidates, supervisors, Schools and the University will be able to monitor progress toward timely completion within the allocated time for the degree. Annually, candidates will deliver written work as well as an oral presentation to their supervisors and peers at College level. Students are required to submit all work for the RHD Milestone via the University’s text-matching resources in accordance with the Academic Integrity Policy.

Refer to Clause 13.4 of the RHD Policies and Procedures for more information.

The annual RHD Milestones offer a uniform and structured mechanism for the assessment of RHD candidature. The RHD Milestones will normally occur on the anniversary of a student’s enrolment and the timeframes are detailed below.  NB: RHD Milestone dates will shift for students who take intermission or change their status from full-time to part-time or vice versa.  Students and Supervisors will be notified of the RHD Milestone date.

  • provide peer feedback to the student on the oral presentation and written submission;
  • assess whether additional education and/or training is required to ensure timely completion;
  • assess whether additional resources will be required by the student to undertake the research;
  • identify any problems or issues to address; and
  • determine whether the candidature should continue.
