Teaching & Learning Committee
Preamble The Faculty Teaching and
Learning Committee will advise Faculty Board on academic policy and procedural
issues of strategic significance to teaching and learning within the Faculty,
and will oversee and guide the implementation of the quality assurance measures
with respect to teaching and learning in terms of University policy. It will exercise
delegated authority on behalf of the Faculty Board with respect to proposals for
new courses and significant changes to academic programs. Terms of Reference
- to advise Faculty Board on academic and student policy matters;
- to
act as a forum for strategic planning in the Faculty of Health Sciences for matters
relating to teaching and learning;
- to oversee the implementation and monitor
compliance of quality assurance processes in the general area of teaching and
learning as prescribed by University policy;
- to utilise research and scholarship
to monitor and promote best practice in teaching and learning, including applications
in information technology and computer assisted learning with a view to enhancing
the quality of program delivery;
- to consider in detail proposals for new
and revised courses and programs of study and, under delegated authority of Faculty
Board, recommend their approval by the Academic Senate;
- to monitor the
implementation of recommendations from the quinquennial reviews of courses and
academic programs offered by the Faculty;
- to advise the Executive Dean
of Faculty on submissions for funding for teaching development and innovation
grants, flexible delivery initiatives and similar funding opportunities;
- to
foster and support innovations in teaching and learning and practice development
in the health professions; and
- to perform such other functions as the
Faculty Board may from time to time determine.
Membership

Coordinator of a postgraduate course in the School of Nursing & Midwifery,
appointed by the Dean of the School Coordinator of a postgraduate course in
the School of Medicine, appointed by the Dean of the School Chair, Faculty
Research Higher Degrees Committee (or nominee, who must be a member of that Committee)
Chair, Faculty International Programs Committee (or nominee, who must be a member
of that Committee) Four student representatives, two from each School, one
undergraduate and one postgraduate student from each Faculty Registrar
Coopted members as necessary *The Chair of the Committee, who shall carry
the title of Associate Head (Teaching and Learning), shall be appointed by the
Faculty Board on the recommendation of the Executive Dean for a period of two
years, and is reappointable. **Appointed by the Faculty Board on the recommendation

for the Chair and Deputy Chair positions will be made recognising the responsibilities
of the Committee and the expertise needed to fulfil those responsibilities.
***Nominees are acceptable. The critical issue is to ensure continuity of input
and communication with course committees. The term of office of the student
and coopted members will be for 12 months (but they may be reelected or coopted
for further terms, as appropriate). The Chair and Deputy Chair are appointed for
a term of 2 years, and are reappointable. Reporting Relationship
The Faculty Teaching and Learning Committee is a committee of the Faculty Board. Meetings
The Committee will generally meet monthly. Additional meetings will be called
as and when required.
