Students 

Flinders has a highly diverse community with many nationalities, cultures, religions and languages represented among our students.

In total Flinders has more than 3,000 international students from 85 different countries.  In total 18% of the student population.

More than 900 students are undertaking Flinders programs in China, Norway, Singapore and Malaysia.  Our online Masters students undertake courses in a range of countries, with the largest group being education students in Canada.

Research

International research collaboration is a central element of our strategy.  About 12% of our higher degree research students are from outside Australia.

  • Flinders is ranked as one of the worlds top 400 universities as determined by the Shanghai Jia Academic Ranking of the World Universities (2011)

  • Ranked at 299 in the QS World University Rankings (2011)
  • In the 2011 International Student Barometer (ISB) we achieved a high level of satisfaction from our international students in living, learning, support and arrival services

Alumni

Flinders has over 52,000 alumni, 8.5% of alumni live outside Australia.  High achieving alumni include:

  • Professor Terence Tao, Professor of Mathematics at UCLA and the first Australian to win the Fields Medal, the equivalent of a Nobel Prize in Mathematics.
  • Dr Mamoru Mohri, Japan’s first astronaut and the Executive Director of Tokyo’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
  • Professor Rodney Brooks, Head of Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT and designer of the first Mars robots in the 1990s.
  • Scott Hicks filmmaker who earned seven Oscar nominations for the film Shine.
