IRU Disaster Resilience Forum

Innovative Research Universities – Disaster Resilience Forum

The Flinders University Disaster Research Centre hosts a web-based Disaster Resilience Forum, to foster communication and collaboration across the IRU universities.

The Asia Pacific region is one of the most disaster prone in the world. Recently, disaster events have included the Bali bombings, devastating wildfires such as the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, disastrous flooding and damage from tropical cyclone ‘Yasi’ in Queensland and the devastating Christchurch earthquakes in New Zealand.

These examples highlight the great need for education and research in the area of disaster resilience. Disaster resilience is an IRU network area of research strength, addressing one of the major challenges of our times.

Across the IRU network, our universities are focused on evaluating the effectiveness of current strategies and developing better disaster management approaches, to ensure we are well prepared for future events.
