There are two different ways that eduroam can be set up on Windows that will work on campus:

  • Downloadable packaged installer that comes preconfigured with all of the required settings
  • Manually configured wireless profile which doesn't require any extra software

SecureW2 Packaged Installer

The SecureW2 packaged installer is the eduroam Federation's recommended method of distributing pre-configured eduroam profiles that set everything up with minimal user input. There are separate installers available for Windows XP/2000 and Windows Vista/7 which can be downloaded from the links below:

Please note that the installers are only compatible with the operating system platform they are specified to install on and may cause issues with your system if installed on the incorrect platform.

Manual Configuration Guides

Windows has the ability to connect to eduroam without any additional software built into it, but it needs to be manually configured as has some security settings that are not detected by default. Guides for manually creating a profile can be found below:

Network Specifications

The connection settings recommended for eduroam on Windows PCs are listed below in case they are needed for troubleshooting or for configuring a third party wireless client:

  • Network Name/SSID: eduroam
  • Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption Type: AES
  • Network authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Inner authentication: EAP-MSCHAPv2

Username is fan@flinders.edu.au and the password is the password that is normally associated with your FAN.

In some cases, server certificate validation may need to be disabled in order for wireless clients to connect successfully.
