Home Use Licenses for Students
Some of the University’s software licence agreements provide for students to use software on their private computers.
The right to use “Home Use Licences” is only available to currently enrolled students.
Technical support for "Home Use" installations on private computers is not available.

Microsoft Office 365
Flinders University students can obtain Microsoft Office 365 through their Flinders account. Follow the steps below:
- Log into your Flinders dashboard (Okta) from either the quick links on the main website or by visiting https://flinders.okta.com and entering your FAN and password
- Select the ‘Office 365’ button on the Okta Dashboard
- You will be redirected to a web page with an Install Now link at the top of the page - click this link
- When you do this you will be prompted to click the Run or Save button. Click the Run button and Office will be downloaded and then installed on your machine
- When you open an Office application for the first time, you will need to log in. Your email address should be entered as your FAN@flinders.edu.au and you will be redirected to an Okta login window where you can enter your FAN and password
Microsoft Imagine (formerly known as DreamSpark and MSDN-AA), allows Staff and Students to receive software design and development tools at no cost – everything needed to create apps, games and websites is available to download through the Flinders University Microsoft Imagine Web Store.
Access to additional benefits such as Microsoft Azure, Windows Virtual Academy, and Windows Dev Center are also available via the subscription.
Levels available to staff/students:
- Standard: Institution Wide
- Premium: For use within the School of Computer Science Engineering and Mathematics (Subscription includes additional benefits such as Visio, Project and Windows).
Microsoft Imagine Standard and Premium Subscriptions are available for academic or non-commercial use.
Students may also share their projects online and continue to use the software after graduation according to EULA terms.
EndNote is a bibliographic database and reference management application.
Windows and Macintosh Versions are available and can be downloaded from our site. You will be required to identify yourself by your FAN (Flinders Authentication Name) and password.

Software for qualitative research and analysis. The product currently supported is NVivo version 11.

If you are working on a larger project with, for example, 5000 documents, then the recommended system requirements would be necessary.
Note: While working on the same project file with two different operating systems (one at home and different one at work) is possible, it may not be practical. QSR advises that project conversion can take a long time depending on the number of documents and PDFs and the amount of coding. Also, special conversion software is required. For more details please refer to this website .

Wolfram Mathematica (Mathematica) is a symbolic mathematical computation program, sometimes called a computer algebra program, used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields. The Wolfram Language is the programming language used in Mathematica.

Security software such as anti-virus and anti-malware is an important means of ensuring computers are properly protected.
If you connect your computer to the campus network you are responsible for ensuring that you have anti-virus software installed, enabled and up to date to protect your computer and other computers on the campus network.
There are number of free anti-virus software solutions available depending on your operating system.
SPSS and Amos (home use license only available for Post Graduate students)
IBM SPSS is a computer application which provides statistical analysis of data. It allows for in-depth data access and preparation, analytical reporting, segmentation and predictive modelling. More analytical power can be added by using optional IBM SPSS modules.

SICStus is a state-of-the-art, ISO standard compliant, Prolog development system. Built around a high performance Prolog engine that can use the full virtual memory space for 32 and 64 bit architectures alike, SICStus is efficient and robust for large amounts of data and large applications.
SICStus is available to students on Campus in the Student Labs at the IS&T Building and Tonsley.
Students can also request a license for use on their personal computer. The license is valid to 28 February of the following year. Students will need to apply for a new license each year.
ChemDraw Prime is a complete entry-level drawing program that provides the tools to create chemically intelligent, publication-ready chemical structures and reactions, laboratory notes and experiment write-ups. As well as a full set of chemical structure essentials such as rings, bonds, chains, atoms and functional groups, ChemDraw Prime includes chemical and lab equipment templates and handy TLC and Gel Electrophoresis Plate drawing tools.
