Passwords

At the University your FAN and password act as a means to access email, wireless internet, and other IT services. To ensure that these services and the data they contain remain secure, it is important to create and maintain strong passwords.

Single Sign On

The University uses a Single Sign On solution that saves you time and reduces the frequency of entering your FAN and password. After you logon to the Single Sign On dashboard or a University managed computer, you will have seamless access to core University applications without typing your password again.

Account Lockout

If you enter your password incorrectly 10 times, your FAN will be locked for 60 minutes. This lockout prevents malicious users from attempting to guess FAN passwords with repeated login attempts. Rather than waiting 60 minutes for your FAN to unlock, you can also reset your password and sign in immediately.

Change / Reset Password

If you forget your FAN password or would like to change it, you can perform a self-service password reset. During FAN activation, you will be prompted to create a Forgotten Password security question. With the answer to this question you can reset your password in 3 simple steps:

  1. Open the Reset Password page
  2. Enter your FAN and select Reset via SMS or Reset via Email
    • if you chose Reset via SMS, enter the verification code from the sms you receive and click verify
    • if you chose Reset via Email, open the reset link from the email when it arrives
  3. Answer the Forgotten Password Challenge question and you will be able to set a new FAN password.

Security Image

During FAN activation you are prompted to select a security image. This security image will be displayed on the Sign In page only after you have entered your username. Seeing the security image that you selected confirms that you are using the correct sign in page for the University.
