Do the files you are trying to sync have the following characters in the filename?

" # % * : < > ? / \ |

OneDrive does not support these characters in filenames. The files need to be renamed with any character other than the non-supported characters.

Are any of the files or folders that are not syncing in a long filename path.

e.g:

Flinders > Flinders University Documents >

Discussion Papers and Internal Memo Documents

> University Division> Information Technology Services >

Information Security and Risk > InternalPaper.doc.

OneDrive has a filename path character limit upto 256 characters.

The filenames / folder paths need to be renamed  to shorter filenames /folder paths or move the sub-folders and files into a new path from the base directory.

e.g:

Flinders > Flinders Documents > Discussion Papers and Internal Memo Docs

> University Division> ITS > ISR> InternalPaper.doc

Are you running out of hard disk space after syncing your newly created Office365 Group?

It is recommended that you perform a selective sync of the files and folders you would like to be available on your local computer under the OneDrive-Flinders Folder:

Performing a selective sync will ensure only the files you need and are currently working on are synced to your computer. As you require content from your cloud OneDrive for Business account you can revisit this option.

Selective sync also ensures your cloud OneDrive for Business account which has 1 TB of space is your primary document repository, thus freeing up hard disk space on your computer.

To perform a selective sync, please follow the process below;

Step 1:) Right-Click on the OneDrive Sync Client (on your taskbar) and select "Settings'

Step 2:) Under the Account tab, identify your Office365 Group and select "Choose Folders'

Step 3:) Untick the files / folders you do not need on your local computer and click 'OK' to save your changes

After deselecting the files and folders above a local copy of this data will still be available on your local computer, however please note that any changes you make on this un-synced content (identified by not having  a green tick mark), will not replicate to the file and folders on your OneDrive for Business cloud account.

Are any of the files or folders that are not syncing currently open?

A file that’s currently opened by an application

can't be synced by OneDrive for Business.

Close any application where the file is currently being used, e.g Microsoft Word and retry syncing the file once again.

Do any of the folders you are trying to sync have names starting with:

 _t

 _w

Folders starting with these characters are not supported.   The folders need to be renamed with any character other than the non-supported characters.

Do any of the files you are trying to sync have the following filenames:

Icon .lock CON PRN AUX NUL COM1 COM2 COM3 COM4
COM5 COM6 COM7 COM8
COM9 LPT1 LPT2 LPT3 LPT4 LPT5 LPT6 LPT7
LPT8 LPT9
Files with the following filenames are not supported.   The files need to be renamed with any filename other than the non-supported filenames.

Are you trying to sync a file that is equal to or greater than 10GB in size?

Maximum file size that can be uploaded is 10 GB.

The file will need to be divided into two or more parts wherein each part is under 10GB. A zip utility such as 7-zip can be used to achieve this.

If there any issues breaking-up the file please contact IT Service Desk for further assistance.
