Flinders Medical Centre Staff Access to Library Services and Resources

Welcome to Staff of the Flinders Medical Centre. You have dual access to Library services and resources via both the SA Health Library Service and the Flinders University Library (including the Gus Fraenkel Medical Library, the Sturt and Central Campus Libraries).

This page summarises this dual access and a handout is available for ready reference from the Library.


SA Health Library Service

The SA Health Library Service (SAHLS) provides online clinical information resources accessible via the SALUS  website - http://salus.sa.gov.au - from work and from home.

A SALUS username and password is required for access. You can register by completing the online registration form on the SALUS website. If you work in the mental health area, please select “SA Mental Health” as your workplace and if you are a pharmacist, select “SA Pharmacy” as your workplace.

After submitting the registration form you will receive an email with a link to set your password.


  • Evidence based practice resources including the Cochrane library, UpToDate, JBI
  • Pharmaceutical information – MIMS, Therapeutic Guidelines, Australian Medicines Handbook, Martindale….
  • Databases, for example Medline, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL
  • Online journals – including New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, BMJ
  • Online books


  • Literature searching – a librarian will comprehensively search core clinical databases to find the most relevant journal articles on your topic
  • Interlibrary loans and document delivery – if we don’t have access to a book or article we’ll retrieve the item from another source
  • Orientation, training and support – help in all aspects of the use of online resources and with the development of information skills and competencies
  • Immediate assistance via online chat

Gus Fraenkel Medical Library

The Gus Fraenkel Medical Library is located on level 5 (5E206) of the Flinders Medical Centre and is open 7 days a week. As FMC staff you are welcome to come and read, study or use the 2 computers at the front of the Library (next to the photocopiers) for study or work.

The Gus Fraenkel Medical Library offers FMC Staff:

  • borrowing of up to 100 items
  • access to 2 OPACS (open access computers)

Registration Form

To register for services, please complete the online Patron Registration Form and lodge at the Library Lending Services counter. You will need to show your FMC ID badge.

Findit@Flinders is a search engine that provides credible, relevance ranked results from the Library's online and print collections in a single search. It includes everything found in the Library's catalogue (books, ebooks and DVDs) plus a lot of the content available through the Library's databases (journal articles and research content from the Flinders Academic Commons).
