Eros Foundation Publications and Archives

The Eros Association (previously named Eros Foundation) is a national lobby group for the sex industry in Australia, based in Canberra. The collection was donated to the Flinders University Library by the Association. It has been added to by businesses in the sex industry, Australia's HIV/AIDS organisations, gay & lesbian groups, sex worker associations, IV drug user groups, and individuals.

The material is mostly Australian and covers the industry's perspective on censorship, pornography, erotica, civil liberties, gay rights, sex and sexuality, sex work, sexually transmitted diseases and legal issues.

The Eros Foundation Publications and Archives contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports to committees, inquiries and publications (including periodicals and audiovisual items) of affiliated groups and members.

Affiliated groups and members include Australian sex worker associations, IV drug user groups, gay & lesbian groups and AIDS councils. There are also pamphlets and posters on safe sex & safe injecting, and ephemera from the sex industry.

Conditions of access

Access to archival material is restricted to bona-fide researchers.

Enquiries should be made initially to the Special Collections Librarian. Application to use specific parts of the collection must be made to the University Librarian.

Some of the material (both published and archival) is sexually explicit and RESTRICTED (Classification 2) by the Office of Film and Literature Classification and is not available to persons under 18 years of age.

Material may be embargoed for a given period of time and special clearances may be required.
