Welcome to the NT Medical Program

The Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) is part of the Flinders NT Cluster of Flinders University's School of Medicine. We provide training to Flinders University and James Cook University medical students and coordinate placement opportunities and support for Allied Health students and interstate medical students. In 2011, an inaugural group of twenty four students enrolled in Year 1 of the Graduate Entry Medical Program at the new NTMP building on the Charles Darwin University campus in Darwin. NTMP also has an administration centre and teaching rooms at the Royal Darwin Hospital.

The Northern Territory Remote Clinical School (NTRCS), with campuses in Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy, is part of the NTMP. This initiative commenced in 2005 and aims to give students the opportunity to undertake training in rural environments. The program also offers support to health professionals working in these remote tea ching locations.
Since 2008, Flinders University medical students based in Darwin have been able to experience a broader educational experience through the established Community Based Medical Education (CBME) program. Through this program, students are placed in non-hospital settings including general practices and Aboriginal Health Services.

The Northern Territory Medical Program prides itself on the quality of education provided to students and the support offered through the School to the medical and health workforce across the Northern Territory. Curriculum delivery is innovative using the latest technologies to ensure quality presentation in a variety of settings - from Flinders University in suburban Adelaide to Nhulunbuy, one of the most remote medical program campuses in Australia.

NTMP works closely with other important Flinders NT initiatives including the Poche Centre of Indigenous Health in Alice Springs, and the University's participation in academic leadership and services at the Palmerston Super Clinic. Flinders University has a strategic commitment that Flinders NT activities will be undertaken in close collaboration with Charles Darwin University.

The NTMP and NTRCS acknowledge that their campuses across the Northern Territory are situated on Larrakia land (Darwin), Jawoyn land (Katherine), Arrernte land (Alice Springs) and Yolngu land (Nhulunbuy).
