Teaching
Doctor of Medicine
We are involved in teaching ophthalmology into the Doctor of Medicine. Tutors from within our department provide students with a solid understanding of:
- The anatomy of the eye.
- Organic and external causes of eye disease and injury.
- Ophthalmological procedures and techniques.
This helps prepare students for their future careers as generalist practitioners, as well as giving them a solid foundation from which to work, should they eventually choose to specialise in ophthalmology.
Optometry
In conjunction with our close partners in Optometry and Vision Science, we teach into the undergraduate optometry course.
Honours and research higher degrees
There are also opportunities for clinicians and science graduates to become involved in postgraduate research programs. We welcome a small number of honours students each year.
Our department has a strong track record for student completion of masters and PhD studies by research.
Weekly seminars
The Department of Ophthalmology holds weekly meetings open to students and health professionals. Seminars include a mixture of presentations from members of the department and external guest speakers.
The seminar series run from March to November, at 8am Tuesdays in the Neil Della Seminar Room, Flinders Private Hospital.
