The overall aim of the Southgate Institute is to lead scholarship on the social and economic determinants of health and health equity and to provide opportunities for information sharing and debate across disciplines, both within Flinders University and in the wider community.

To this end, the Southgate Institute hosts a number of events and activities throughout the year through the Southgate Network. This includes three interdisciplinary clubs: a Journal Club, Policy Club and Theory Club. It also assists in one-off events such as seminars and workshops to take advantage of visiting Australian and international academics and policy makers.

The Southgate Institute also collaborates with other organisations and institutes in organising symposiums, conferences or other events to help bring a social determinants of health and equity perspective.

Benefits of membership

Individuals and organisations can become members of the Southgate Network. As a member you will receive early notification of Southgate events, some of which are available for members only. You may also be eligible for support with grant applications, event management or other activities which are likely to contribute to the aims of the Southgate Institute.

We also very much welcome ideas from our members for any of our clubs and events, or ideas for new areas for research or collaboration.
