
Current and former Flinders staff members and graduates received awards in the recent Queen’s Birthday honours list.
Former Flinders law lecturer Mr Ian Bidmeade was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his contribution to public health and to people with disabilities through contributions to administrative and legislative reforms, and to the community through a range of social welfare organisations.
Dr Ken Fielke of the School of Psychiatry was among the recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to the communities of rural and remote South Australia through the delivery of mental health services and programs, and for his contributions to professional organisations.
Also receiving OAMs were Masters in Education graduate Mr Barry Couzner, for his service as a volleyball administrator and educator, and to the community; Miss Margaret Maloney [DipAppSc (Nurs) 1987] for her service to international humanitarian aid through the provision of volunteer nursing services in developing countries; and Ms Pamela Rajowski [BA 1972, DipEd 1973] for her service to the community through research into the history of the Afghan and Aboriginal cameleers.
Dr David Cunliffe, a PhD in Biological Sciences, was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to the South Australian community by ensuring the quality and safety of drinking water.
