      ASIA PACIFIC INSTITUTE CONFERENCE

      9 AM - 5.00 PM, Wednesday 01 Oct 2008 - Thursday 02 Oct 2008

      Flinders International Asia Pacific Institute will host a conference on Australia’s Strategic Futures, co-sponsored by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

      Local and international speakers will discuss the key drivers shaping Australia’s strategic environment in the first half of the 21st century, and the implications for the framework of the nation’s future military capabilities.

      Speakers include Professor Hugh White of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, ANU, and Professor Mark Pythian of the University of Leicester.

      Flinders International Asia-Pacific Institute [supported by AusAID’s Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) - Fellowships Program] presents Whose Security? Women's Safety and  
      Child Protection in Local and Global Contexts

      This symposium is for practitioners, policy makers, researchers and interested individuals to share knowledge and experiences in promoting the safety of women and protection of children.  

      To be held in the Conference Room, Function Centre, Flinders University.

      • Elisabeth Porter - Head of School, School of International Studies, Magill Campus, University of South Australia
      • Pat Anderson - Chairperson, Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health and Co-author of the Little Children are Sacred report.
      • Ted Mullighan OAM - Commissioner of the Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry in South Australia.
      • Bernadette McMenamin AO - Chief Executive Officer, Child Wise (ECPAT in Australia).
      • Sandy Pitcher - Director, Office for Women, South Australia.
      • Visiting AusAID ALA Fellows from Vietnam and Indonesia
