Students studying in Sturt Library The School of Nursing & Midwifery:

  • offers over 25 awards in nursing and midwifery ranging from Bachelor's degrees to PhDs
  • enrols around 435 new students each year and has a total student cohort of more than 2400 students
  • attracts an international student population of over 20% of the student total from countries such as China, Norway, Indonesia, Scotland, Korea and Zimbabwe
  • provides courses for on-campus and off-campus students
  • offers continuing education courses so that nurses and midwives can keep up-to-date in their specialities
  • encourages excellence in teaching (six of our staff have won Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Awards)
  • has a staff of over 180 including approximately 140 full-time and part-time teaching staff and clinical facilitators who have many years of experience in a range of clinical specialities, sciences, humanities and law
  • was established in 1975 as one of the first three university schools in Australia to offer nursing education in the tertiary sector
  • was the first university school to offer a Bachelor of Midwifery program in Australia, in 1997
  • is one of two schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences
  • is based on the northern edge of the beautiful 165-hectare campus of Flinders University, south of Adelaide's central business district.
