Midwifery and nursing are about making positive changes in people's lives. Community participation helps increase individual and community wellbeing.
We believe that community service should form a part of every student's education and every staff member's professional life. Community involvement helps strengthen professional attitudes and grounds academic study in the realities of community life.
Our staff contribute to society:
- as leaders of community and non-government humanitarian organisations
- on boards and advisory committees
- through their work to advance health knowledge, as editors and reviewers of key scientific journals
- through their contributions to the colleges of midwifery and nursing.
We encourage our students to become acquainted with their local communities through projects such as community health assessments and becoming familiar with local services. Our staff contribute to their communities through active involvement with professional organisations, collaborative research partnership arrangements with industry and local care facilities, disaster management work and participation in areas such as women's, Aboriginal and rural health.
