Welcome

The School of Nursing & Midwifery (SONM) is committed to developing and implementing practical strategies to create an environmentally sustainable workplace.

To achieve this goal, SoNM held a Staff Development Day for general and technical staff at the Belair Country Club on 16 July 2008. During the events of that day it was decided to form a 'Green Team' to drive green initiatives at the School.

The Green Team members are:

Diana Paice, Gregory Mathews, Jacqui Troath, Ailsa n'ha Winifreyda, Ingrid Belan and Andrew Benton.

The first job of the Green Team was to create a mascot to assist with getting the 'Green' messages out  to the School's community and to run a name the mascot competition.

General staff - Staff Development Day on 16 July 2008

The day included tree planting and weeding in Belair National Park and a workshop to look at the challenges and benefits of developing a sustainable working environment.

Many olive and boneseed saplings were cleared during the working bee.

After working in the fields (pictures below) everyone contributed to developing green strategies for the school to take.

Gus the Greenie says:

'Switch on to Switching Off'.

Did you know that leaving just one computer and monitor on for a year produces the same amount of greenhouse gas as a car travelling 3000 kms?

When you leave your computer at the end of the working day please remember to switch off the monitor as well as the computer - not only will you be contributing to better energy management but you will also contribute to the environment as whole and as Gus the Greenie says 'Switch on to Switching Off'.
