Acute trauma at work

If staff experience traumatic events such as being involved in or witnessing a serious accident, a death or physical assault at work, then:

  • During normal working hours: call Jennie Cumming (13703) or Kerry Jaunutis (13117) at the OH&S Unit. They will assist with arranging appropriate counselling assistance.*

  • Out of normal working hours: call Mark King, Emergency Services Coordinator (0421 140 955) or Ian Carter, Senior Security Officer (12880).

      • Mark or Ian will contact the psychologist who is available on a 24 hour basis if required. His services are to be used only for sudden, acute, work related trauma such as described above.
      • If acute traumatic events occur and staff or students are involved then it is anticipated that the Security Officer and/or Emergency Services Coordinator will be in attendance.
      • During working hours the Security Officer or Emergency Services Coordinator will contact the OH&S Unit if they believe that rapid response counselling is required.

*All of the people providing the counselling service are highly qualified clinical psychologists, able to assist with exposure to acute work related traumatic events as well as the range of issues listed on the OH&S website.
