In the event of an accident or illness requiring First Aid,
assistance may be sought from any of the University staff
who are trained First Aiders.
Over 100 staff have undertaken this training. They have obtained
a Senior First Aid Certificate, which is the standard training
program for those who require a certificate of competence
in first aid.
The Senior First Aid Certificate course meets the requirements
of Federal and State Government Departments and Statutory
Authorities.

All Security staff have been trained in First Aid.
There are 6 area coordinators
for First Aid. They provide administrative support for the
first aiders in their Faculties/Cost Centres.
The following Australian Standard approved first aid signs can be downloaded below:
If supervisors believe that there is a need for more staff
in their area to be trained they should contact their area
coordinator in the first instance. Any staff who wish to undertake first aid training must have that request approved by the supervisor prior to contacting the Cost Centre First Aid Coordinator and the Occupational Health and Safety Unit. The Occupational Health
and Safety Unit will organise training with either the Australian
Red Cross or St John Ambulance Australia.
The training is paid for by the OH&S Unit. See training
information.
First Aid assistance is available Monday to Friday from the
Health and Counselling Service. The Service is available from
9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. for all staff and students.
If treatment is required at the Flinders Medical Centre -
but an ambulance is not necessary - then Security can assist
with transport: phone 12880.
If you need an Ambulance call
0-000 and also call Security X12880 so that they can direct
the Ambulance to the correct building.
Note: Staff will be indemnified if they have made
themselves available for, and have undertaken, appropriate
training and if they acted in accordance with their training
and exercised their best judgement at the time and if they
have not engaged in misconduct. In addition, no staff members,
including those with specific First Aid training, are required
to carry out First Aid procedures that they are not comfortable
with even if they have been fully trained in those procedures.
First Aid Rooms are available in various locations across
the campus, for information regarding access to the rooms

First Aid Kits are widely distributed throughout the University.
The First Aiders can advise regarding the location of First
Aid Kits and Rooms in their areas.
Contact your First Aider or your School / Division office
for details of local procedures.
First Aid on Field Trips

plants and animals that might cause poisoning or allergic
reactions and appropriate control measures should be taken.
See the Field Trip Procedures and Guidelines for further information.
First Aid Audits
Cost Centre First Aid Coordinators will be involved in regular OHS system audits that are carried out by OHS audit teams.
