Audit by WorkCover

Many of you will be aware that the WorkCover auditor assigned to the University was on campus recently. During the two weeks that he was here the auditor interviewed about 45 staff and visited areas in all Faculties, Library and Central Administration.

The auditor checked the design, implementation and results of our OH&S internal audits and also checked implementation of various other systems for managing OH&S at the University.

The written audit report has not yet been received but the verbal advice from the auditor at the feedback session was that the University was managing Occupational Health and Safety matters very well.

Some areas are operating at "best practice" level with regard to Occupational Health and Safety.

Thank you to all who participated in the audit and to all staff whose commitment to health and safety matters is evident in achieving this good feedback.

OH&S internal audits

In the first half of this year the OH&S internal audit teams audited the systems for managing OH&S training and manual handling training. The OH&S Unit audited the system for managing Boats and Boating activities.

Across the course of the next several months the teams will be auditing the systems for managing plant safety and for ensuring that supervisors provide advice regarding use of screen based equipment, and they will also be checking that the regular building hazard surveys have been carried out.

Between now and the end of the year the OH&S Unit or consultants engaged by the Unit will complete the audits of diving, asbestos management, laser safety, radiation safety and disposal of chemical waste.

New accident / incident report form

The yellow accident / incident report card has been revised in order to reduce duplication of information and of paperwork by supervisors and the OH&S Unit.

The new version of the accident / incident report form is available in your tea room, your Faculty, School, Division or Department office, from your Health and Safety Representative and from the OH&S Unit.

The report form can be accessed on line via the OH&S site map (under "Forms")
