University Radiation Safety Officer

Dr Gerald Laurence (MARPS) is the University Radiation Safety Officer

He provides:

• advice and assistance on radiation protection to the University
  
• introductory training in radiation protection
  
• oversight of the University's adherence to legislative requirements including the licensing of staff, the register of radiation workers, and the registration of laboratories and equipment
  
• audits of the use of ionizing radiation

He is responsible for:

• the production and maintenance of the Radiation Safety Manual
  
• reviewing the radiation doses received by radiation workers
  
• the preparation of the annual Radioactive Waste Management plan and general supervision of radioactive waste issues
  
• the supervision of emergencies involving radiation
  
• reporting when necessary to the Radiation Protection Branch, Department of Human Services
