Safe and suitable work

All staff members are provided with safe and suitable work.

Where a staff member is undertaking a return to work program then medical advice is sought regarding specific needs with regard to safe and suitable duties and hours to be worked.

During the accident investigation procedure which is performed when a compensable injury or illness occurs, any need for worksite alterations are identified and dealt with by the area supervisor.

Should the staff member's illness or injury require special worksite adaptations then this will be indicated by the treating medical practitioner, or identified by either the staff member, the supervisor, the Occupational Health Nurse / Rehabilitation Case Manager.

It is the responsibility of the area supervisor to ensure that any such identified adaptations are carried out.

The Occupational Health and Safety Unit will be provide ergonomic furniture, where this is necessary for the injured staff member. Such provision of furniture in an office or laboratory environment routinely includes ergonomic chairs, stools, footrests, terminal elevation boxes, sloping work surfaces and copy holders.
