Work hardening placements

1.Outside people on rehabilitation placed in the University

A statement to the effect that the person is undergoing a work hardening placement and is not a University employee should be drawn up and signed by the person, their rehabilitation Case Manager and a responsible administrative officer in the Human Resources Division.

WorkCover pays the salary on behalf of the person's employer - the University does not pay.

The University is not liable for any aggravation of the existing problem - the cost is borne by WorkCover on behalf of the person's employer.

If they have an accident in the University which is unrelated to the existing problem then the costs etc are NOT carried by WorkCover. The University may be responsible if either the worker or their employer decided to take action.

Workplace assessments, equipment needed to perform the job etc are paid for by WorkCover on behalf of the person's employer, not by the University.

2.University staff placed with associated bodies

The area in which the injury first occurred pays the salary. The person fills in a time sheet and submits it to his/her usual area of employment.

The University's Rehabilitation Case Manager may arrange Occupational Therapy assessment. The cost will be paid by the Claims Management Unit.
