Workstation Assessments

Introduction

Any staff member may request an assessment of their workstation/worksite.

For workstation/worksite assessments when a staff member is undertaking rehabilitation refer to Rehabilitation Procedures.

On receipt of workstation assessment inquiry or phone call

The Occupational Health Nurse will ask the staff member if they have discussed the issue with their supervisor. Does the supervisor know they are calling us?

If the staff member has not advised their supervisor of the problem then the Occupational Health Nurse will call the supervisor or ask the staff member to.

If the staff member has advised their supervisor of the problem an appointment is made to inspect the workstation and the Faculty/Area Office is advised.

Assessment Procedure

  1. Assess Workstation to ergonomic standards detailed in the Ergonomic Furniture and Office Accommodation Information Book.

  2. If medical advice has been sought, discuss with Occupational Health Nurse.

  3. If necessary discuss organisation of work, workload etc.

  4. Make recommendations and give advice.

  5. An assessment form is completed by the Occupational Health Nurse and distributed to:

    • staff member

    • supervisor

A copy is also placed on Central file, ES/5/ series.

Note: Photographs may be taken of staff posture or the workstation to assist in identification of remedial action.
