Legislative Compliance
The Vice-Chancellor has been nominated as the `Responsible
Officer' as required by the Occupational Health Safety
and Welfare Act, 1986 and is held legally accountable
for the health, safety and welfare of the University's employees
and students at work.
All staff have legal responsibilities under the Occupational
Health Safety and Welfare Act.
In particular, supervisors are responsible for implementing
the University’s Occupational Health and Safety management
systems and for ensuring legislative compliance in their areas.
The Occupational Health and Safety Unit is available to assist
but does not carry out OH&S tasks that are the responsibility
of managers and supervisors.
The OH&S Unit provides:
- a central co-ordinating role for occupational health
and safety and for rehabilitation following work-related
injury or illness;
- expert advice to the University community.
