Organisation
Structure
Consultation and co-operation between
management, staff and students is very important. To assist
consultation the University has established an extensive network
to manage occupational health, safety and welfare. In particular
it has:
-
established a University Occupational
Health and Safety Committee and six major Cost Centre
Occupational Health and Safety Committees with elected
Health and Safety representatives and nominated management
representatives on all committees;
-
established a Biosafety Committee,
responsible for all aspects of biosafety including the
regulation of work and biological safety associated with
the use of recombinant DNA;
-
appointed a University Radiation
Safety Officer responsible for coordinating all aspects
of ionizing radiation safety in the University and a network
of area Radiation Safety Officers;
-
established an Occupational Health
and Safety Unit responsible for the day-to-day coordination
of occupational health, safety and welfare (OHS&W)
activities and the development and implementation of the
University's OHS&W policies and procedures;
-
delegated specific responsibility
for OHS&W to Faculty/Major Organisation Unit Heads,
together with appropriate authority to manage this range
of activities;
-
informed staff of the correct procedures
to be followed to elect Health and Safety Representatives,
and in some areas appointed Area Health and Safety Officers
to assist at the local level.
The six major Cost Centres are the
four Faculties, Library and Central Administration.
For detailed information on the terms
of reference of each committee, refer to the University's
