Flinders University recognises that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have not had the opportunity to gain entry to university by traditional means.  The Indigenous Admissions Scheme was developed to address this situation.

The Scheme provides the opportunity for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply for entry into Flinders University undergraduate courses.  Year 12 students who are concerned that they may not receive the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score needed for the course of their choice may also apply for admission to Flinders University through the Scheme.

To be eligible an applicant must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in accordance with the Commonwealth definition which requires that the applicant:

  • be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and
  • be accepted as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he/she lives or has lived.

What to do if you want to apply

If you are interested in applying for a place in a Flinders University course through the Scheme you will need to:

  1. apply for your course of study through the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).  SATAC booklets are available at newsagencies or you can apply online at SATAC.  SATAC will provide you with an application number which you will need to include in your Indigenous Admissions form

  2. complete the  Indigenous Admissions form and return to Yunggorendi Student Engagement, Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement.

  3. meet with staff in the Centre to discuss your application.

Closing Dates

First round applications close late November and second round applications close in early January.  Flinders University also offers a mid-year intake into a number of courses for which applications close in June.

For semester 1 commencement applicants need to make themselves available to meet with staff in the Centre during December and January preceding the beginning of the academic year.
