Adam is currently involved in research on psychiatric risk assessment and management, as well as investigation of patient absconding from inpatient psychiatric units. Adam is a member of the mental health research team, School of Nursing & Midwifery.
Adam's other areas of interest are in social, developmental, and forensic psychology. In particular, Adam's research has focused on the process of perspective taking and related empathic responses. This work addresses how people take the psychological point of view of others, the nature of this process (e.g. relationship to self-reflection, rumination and insight, dispositional characteristics), and its application to various types of interpersonal interaction. His previous research work also involved the evaluation of prison-based offender rehabilitation programs. Adam has taught psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
