Biography

A social worker by training, Fiona worked for many years in the SA Community Health sector, in community development and management positions. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology. Her areas of social work practice are community development, social policy and social planning and she is an active researcher and teacher in these areas. She is a Flinders University Representative on the Don Dunstan Foundation Board of Management and an elected member of the Board of Management of SA Council of Social Service.

Fiona is the Dean of the School of Social and Policy Studies and teaches into the social work undergraduate program.

Fiona is working on the following research projects:

  • Impacts of risk management and public liability insurance on civic society
  • Community development and capacity building in the OPAL Evaluation
  • Social quality of life in Australia: a country-specific arm of an International study

Postgraduate research supervision

Fiona is a PhD Research superviser for students working on a range of projects in the areas of social policy, health promotion and empowerment methodologies.
