Marja is a qualified secondary school teacher, a clinical psychologist and has been admitted as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Queensland. Marja has had extensive experience across Australia and internationally in both government and non-government organisations including as Regional Psychology Manager with Defence Force Recruiting, Executive Director in the Department of Corrective Services and the Department of Premier and Cabinet in South Australia, and as Director Community Corrections, Manager of the Child Protection Advice and Referral Service and Manager of Sexual Assault Services in Tasmania. She has been Queensland Manager, Mental Health for the RFDS and CEO of the Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service. She has worked in remote Indigenous communities in Cape York, across the Pacific as the Gender Based Violence Specialist for the Government of Nauru and in Japan as Director of Tokyo English Life Line. She is currently specialising in trauma focused treatment, is a Research Fellow working with the mental health and wellbeing of early career first responders and is a Clinical Teaching Specialist with Flinders University.
