Mary joined Flinders University in October 2017. Mary has applied her biostatistical skills to a vast spectrum of application areas and a broad array of problems over the last 25 years. She has worked in the medical, food and nutrition space, on neurological, surgical and nutrition applications. Prior to this she worked in the agricultural space as a biometrician working on wine, soil and aquatic problems. She has experience in data analysis, experimental design, training, risk assessment and elegant graphics. She presents complicated results simply.

  • 2014 University of New South Wales Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research. The AIBL Research Team (Mary as part of the team)

  •   2012 The Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Risk Assessment (ERA) Model i-phone app. co-developed by Mary Barnes, Maggi Boult, Robert Fitridge, Domenic Robinson and Michael Duffield. [ Medical ERA Model]

  •  2012  $100 prize for the best submitted abstract presentation at the AHRDMA Annual Scientific Meeting ASM2012- Hitting the Target: A Change of Focus in Health Research. Gold Coast, Australia.15-16 March. 

  •   2008  CMIS Leadership Award for achievement in connecting people in the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation’s Soil and Water Initiative (CSIRO divisional award)

  • 2004 Australian Pork Limited Excellence Award for Mary’s contributions to Import Risk Assessment
  • 2008, 2003, 1999 (Re) Accredited Statistician. Statistical Society of Australia     
  • 1987  Prize for best performance in 300 level subjects. Statistical Society of Australia    
  • 1985  Prize for best performance in final year project. Australasian Institute of Metals
