Teaching

Teaching interests

I have always enjoyed teaching, both at high school and University level.
Over my career my teaching has evolved from:
Physics and Mathematics and Science Education and supervising student teachers on placement in schools (1970s)
to Programming, Simulations and New Communications Technologies (1980s)
then Digital Media (1990s)
and now Information Technology, Information Technology Applications, Computer Security and Business Information Systems (mid 90s to present)
The evolution has been due to recognising the need for new areas of teaching as technology has advanced and being prepared to develop new topics (subjects) even though it is very time consuming as text books have generally not been available when I started teaching the areas. My previous teaching has always been taken over by other staff.
I have always enjoyed using new technology in my teaching.
Currently I am also enjoying teaching my research students how to do research.

Research and consultancy

Research interests

Reseacrh Program Leader - Enterprise ICT

Research interests relate to the application of information technology in business and education. In particular, I am interested in developing models for strategic planning in the application of ICT in developing countries.
Current research is in

  • developing models for the application of mobile phones and SMS messaging in e-goverment and e-commerce in developing countries
  • culturally sensitive models for e-learning in developing countries
  • strategies for e-government
Past research has included using expert systems and new technology to teach Physics and computer design of flutes.
